About

Shauna Adams is a licensed clinical social worker and educator who has worked in a variety of roles over her 30 year career; including psychotherapist, school counselor, program administrator, equity consultant, leadership coach, mediator, curriculum developer and teacher. She has taught and supervised undergraduate and graduate students at Lewis & Clark College, Marylhurst University, and Portland State University; and continues to learn from the students, colleagues and social justice practitioners that she mentors.
Guided by emergent change theories, narrative approaches, trauma-informed practices and the expressive arts, Shauna designs learning opportunities that address organizational wellness, relational trust, and cultural responsiveness; and shares her skills, perspectives and interactive learning with regional and national audiences.
Shauna recognizes the critical cultural changes that we are facing as a society, and works with individuals, families, groups and organizations to address the disruption and uncertainty that these changes can create. Her work is grounded in the belief that change is inevitable, and necessary and that health and wellness is possible. She believes in the power of stories to help us understand ourselves and others; using storytelling as a way to examine the intergenerational and collective traumas that impact us all. She also uses storytelling, dance and other expressive arts as tools for remembering our strength and resilience, building genuine connections and inspiring active hope. Shauna draws from the wisdom of the natural world that teaches us daily that diversity and interdependence are vital to our survival, and that new life, growth and beauty can be cultivated and nurtured.
Shauna’s work is informed by her understanding that play and joy are essential to our wellness at all ages. For young children, play provides a means of examining the world, developing identity, practicing problem solving and strengthening cognitive functioning. For everyone, play, laughter, joy and gratitude can be healing salves and antidotes to the challenges we face.
Shauna is inspired by gardens, photographs, dance, and the preciousness of watching her adult children grow. She shares the gift of everyday life with her partner and their furry friend who remind her to bring a spirit of curiosity, compassion and play to her work.
Shauna’s work is based on the understanding that we are experiencing a collective shift in our society which is causing us to examine old systems in new ways. This shift is also asking us to acknowledge historical and intergenerational trauma. As a trauma-informed licensed clinical social worker, Shauna is committed to helping individuals, families and organizations move toward wellness.
